Kevin McDermott teaches acting in Los Angeles and online. He teaches Stanislavski/Strasberg Method, Camera Technique, Stage Technique, Monologue Technique, Audition Preparation, Analysis Techniques, Cold Reading Techniques and Career Coaching. “I love working with actors. What I’ve noticed over the years is that actors often get stuck in their heads. They have preconceived notions about how a character should behave or what the casting director wants to see. An actor must know what the character wants…and then he or she has to make appropriate choices. I will help you get out of your head by making choices in order to play a real person, rather than an ‘actor.'” As Uta Hagen would say, “Acting is doing. The actor is the do-er.” The choices you make (what you “do”) determines the character. Herbert Bergdof would say, “You show me what you ‘do’ and I’ll tell you who you are.” Kevin is a coach with over 30 years of experience as an actor, writer, and director. Kevin studied for many years at HB Studios in New York with Uta Hagen, William Hickey, and with “HB” himself, Herbert Bergdof. He also studied directly with Milton Katselas in Los Angeles. He has appeared in dozens of plays as well as numerous television shows and movies including Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, ER, Almost Grown, Cheers, My Stepmother Is an Alien, Sisters, Judgment Day to name a few. For the last 10 years he has written and directed short films that have played in film festivals around the world and currently are showing on ShortsTV Channel.
